The Middle East University is proud to announce the conferring of an Honorary Doctorate Degree upon Dr. Abike Kafayat Dabiri-Erewa, Chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), based on the recommendation of the Association of Nigerians in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and in accordance with the resolution of the University Board of Trustees, the International Board for Education and Culture, and the World E-Learning Organization—renowned global institutions that grant such honors based on strict academic and societal standards.
This honorary award recognizes her outstanding contributions and lifelong dedication to the service of her nation and community, leaving a significant impact in the fields of media, politics, and diaspora affairs.
Dr. Dabiri-Erewa has been distinguished by her leadership and positive influence both locally and internationally. Her most notable achievements include:
- Pioneering Media and Political Leadership: Served as a Member of the Nigerian House of Representatives for 12 years, and was a leading media figure in Nigeria, having worked for over 15 years as a presenter on NTA, including her renowned program “Newsline.”
- Community and Diaspora Engagement: As Chairperson of NIDCOM, she has championed the rights and welfare of Nigerians abroad and played a key role in the repatriation and reintegration of distressed citizens.
- International Representation: A strong voice for Nigeria on global platforms, she has worked to strengthen ties between Nigeria and its diaspora while encouraging skilled professionals to contribute to national development.
- Empowerment and Legislative Advocacy: Actively supported key human rights and anti-discrimination legislation, and has long championed women and youth empowerment.
